Abigail
       Abigail [perhaps, father of exultation].

       1. The wife of Nabal. She was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance, and on the death of her first husband became one of David's wives (1 Sam. 25:3, 14-44; 27:3; 2 Sam. 2:2). When the Amalekites captured Ziklag they took her captive, but she was rescued by her husband after he had defeated the enemy (1 Sam. 30:5, 18). She bore to him a son called Chileab (2 Sam. 3:3) or Daniel (1 Chron. 3:1).

       2. A sister of David (1 Chron. 2:16); not, however, a daughter of Jesse, but of Nahash (2 Sam. 17:25). She was the mother of Amasa.
